ENJOY YOUR FAMILY, NOT JUST ON THE HOLIDAYS
Family time is the best time but should that only be during the holidays? The answer to that question should be no. Let your family into your life and build a relationship that will last forever because they will be in your life forever.
So it is that time of year again, where family and friends get together to celebrate the holidays; family traditions continue and you feel the love in your house and most importantly in your heart. But for some everyone does not have that feeling, myself included. I usually dread this time of year because of the distance that my family has become accustomed to. There isn’t a set reason as to why we are distant, I guess life happens and people grow apart. I’ve come to the realization that I only dislike the holidays because they aren’t spent with my family and that little feeling of jealousy comes when I see the happy family commercials and my friends are living town to spend the holidays with their family. I not only want that image during the holidays, but on random Sundays and special events in life.
Going into this holiday season, I feel different about the way I spend the holidays. I want to try to build a better relationship with my extended family in hopes that they will accept the invitation. I don’t want to continue the cycle of not seeing my family but I have kind of gotten comfortable with not seeing them, which is pretty sad. So I’m marking the holidays as my start to a better relationship with my family. This holiday season I’m going to make a change, I will call/text my family at least once a month; that is a start. This will just be the beginning of my relationship with them because I want to get to know them better and start a relationship that extends past the holidays. The holidays aren’t the only time to connect with family; it should be for the entire year. So in the spirit of holidays, let that be the motivation to communicate with your family more; call or text but let them know that they are on your mind throughout the year. Happy Holidays!!
