WOMEN IN THE INDUSTRY
When I was in the 11th grade, I had a teacher that influenced my life so much that the lessons he taught me then still apply to my life now. The most important lesson was that there is always someone watching you, so be mindful of your words and actions. At the time, my 17 year old mind did not understand the value of that statement because I did not possibly think that anyone was watching me. As I grew older it came to my realization that young girls are watching me and I should be a positive role model for them. The same as this lesson was taught to me it should be taught to some of the women that are seen on television. Young girls are very impressionable and the wrong image can alter their image of how a lady is supposed to behave.
With all the respect to these individuals but for every Tia and Tamera reality show there is a Love and Hip-Hop reality show, for every Beyonce there is a Rihanna, for every Shonda Rhimes there is a Mona Scott Young; so without a doubt there is a balance but in most situations the least positive appeals to be more fun and entertaining for the younger mind. These women were given a platform so use it wisely. I’m not saying to be perfect, by all means live your life but you should mindful that your life is lived in front of millions of people. I get it; it’s so easy to be bad but doesn’t mean it is the right path to take in life.
Accept the fact that you are a celebrity, whether you like the attention or not, be aware of your actions and words because they do have an effect on the younger generation. You made the decision to become a role model once taken the opportunity to be in the entertainment business; I understand that we all make mistakes but your mistakes shouldn’t become habits.
Set the standard and be positive! Trust, there is always someone watching!
