THE BEST AND WORST MOMENTS OF THE 2014 VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS
BEST - THE MOMENT WE REALIZED NICKI MINAJ IS A TRUE PROFESSIONAL
After opening the show with three solo performances, Nicki Minaj, Ariana Grande and Jessie J took the stage together to perform their hit song "Bang Bang" only to find that Nicki may not have had enough time to complete her wardrobe change after taking the stage in a dress that she had to hold closed. Despite all of her antics, Nicki din't miss a beat and kept her composure in a more than compromising position. She has just as much professionalism as she has body. Kudos.
WORST - THE MOMENT TAYLOR SWIFT STARTED DANCING
America's favorite white girl, Taylor Swift, performed "Shake it Off" to most of twitter's dismay. The shining moment of Swift's live performance was when a very petty cameraman caught Miley Cyrus giving a very uneasy, "is that what I look like when I'm up there?" reaction. Taylor would later be caught dancing the rest of the night in a very spastic, rhythmless, outright annoying way. Get a look at this...
BEST/WORST - THE MOMENT LAVERNE COX & UZO ADUBA INTRODUCED USHER
When Sophia, Suzanne and (ugh) Piper came out serving legs and face there was a collective celebration for our favorite women from Litchfield. After Uzo gave us a little bit of "Crazy Eyes" the trio introduced the man who provided some of the best laughs of the night - Usher Raymond. From his red carpet photobomb to bouncing off of Nicki Minaj's ass mid-performance, Ursher baby is an entertainer.
BEST - THE MOMENT MILEY CONVINCED US THAT SHE'S NOT ALL BAD
We, at Eve Jane Clair, have a strict policy of giving credit where credit is due. Therefore we have to acknowledge that Miley Rae Cyrus pulled off one of the classiest and upstanding moves ever seen from a celebrity of her era. Upon receiving the VMA for best video (Wrecking Ball) and used her platform, in front of a room full of celebrities and millions of viewers to bring attention to a global epidemic that effects people in our very backyards: homelessness. See the speech below.
BEST - WHEN THE VMA'S BECAME THE BEYMA'S
Queen Bey closed the show with a long awaited live performance (especially after the flip phone footage that BET aired a few months ago) and she did more than deliver. So, not only did we get an entire run through of her latest self-titled album which prompted some to call her performance the "On The Jog" Tour we got a full production. We refrain from calling Beyoncé 'Beysus" because... idolatry, but Miss Third Ward is hands down the best entertainer alive. Between stolen moments of Jay-Z catching baby Blue dance to her mother's music or Bey reiterating that she is a feminist, her dedicating "XO" to her fans and her family presenting her with the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award to the sound of Blue saying "Go Mommy!" this moment was one of her best. The only thing left to say is "How did you wake up this mawnin?"
