10 THINGS WE'VE LEARNED ABOUT JIDENNA
The first solo artists from Janelle Monae's label Wondaland hosted a Q&A #AskAClassicMan on twitter and we got to know the well-dressed rapper and crooner, who is making a wave from his finger curl to the subject matter of his music, a little better.
1. He speakes Igbo.
A proud Nigerian man, Jidenna speaks Igbo a native language belonging to one of the largest ethnic groups in his home country.
2. He was going to be an engineer.
Having traditional Nigerian parents he was naturally presented with the Cosby Show career plan (doctor, lawyer, or engineer). It seems that Jidenna has always had the need to create something.
3. He loves nature.
He is most at ease spending the day at the beach, atop a mountain or lost in the forest.
4. He has a social club called Fear and Fancy.
Single-handedly responsible for bringing back swank, it makes sense that Jidenna would be proprietor of a space that prides itself on being the club before and after the club. We can imagine the scene looking like the endings of the "Classic Man" and "Yoga" videos. You know, you show up with your edges laid and your fit right just to sweat them both out.
5. He was a teacher at Fresh Prep.
Fresh Prep is an academic program that uses music as a tool to educate NY area students with the expectation that they pass the state Regents Exam. Jidenna is a real class act.
6. He stands at 6'1".
He presents a little taller, but 6'1" is more than enough for our eyes to enjoy.
7. He's looking for a Classic Woman.
*takes up yoga to be more... flexible*
8. He's a fan of Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole.
9. He wants to work with Elon Musk, Stromae, and Hillary Clinton.
True. True. Side-eye.
10. He looked up to Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Michael Jordan, and TMNT.
Style, authenticity, work ethic and honor. We can see the influence.
Long Live the Chief!
